I probably know the answer to this question but i have to ask.
Me and my buddy are try to both become officers in the same dept. i'm worried for him being DQ because of his prior drug usage
He Stated he tried Mushrooms once when he was 19, he is 22 now
He Stated he has smoke weed a hand full of times

Auto DQ or no?

I'd say his chances are pretty good that he'll be looking for a new line of work.

I dont know of any departments that are willing to risk hiring someone who has done hallucinogenics...especially in so recent of a past.

We get told we don't know how to do our jobs all the time. Tell your friend to go ahead and apply, he'll find out the hard way.

It's been a relatively short amount of time since your friend's drug usage, did you associate with him during that period?

And yes i know the saying "people one associates with, says something about ones self"
But at least my decision of associating with him is a lesser charge of taking it myself.

There is a similar saying in Spanish which sounds eloquent as it is said and roughly translates; "Show me someone's friends and I'll know who that person is."

I don't think that is what is being said! I think the substance of the topic about your associations should be a wakeup for you that the background investigator, looking at your associations and friendships, is going to take a long hard look at your ability to pick and choose friends who are law abiding and morally stable.

Don't be surprised by questions that may come up. And, by the way, don't take such a defensive posture when issues are presented. Such action on your part would raise some suspicions that others may be correct in their presumptions!

You asked a question, you got answers, don't get so defensive when those who don't know you make candid observations based on your own words.

Every dept has it's own policies, here he'd be booted so hard he'd land in the parking lot.

You know, why not ask your recruiter/background investigator?
