how can i keep myself safe?

hi, im a college student living in an apartment close to my campus....im currently living with a roomate who does herion.....i have lived with her throughout her addiction and continuously asked her to stop shes always promised me but it all ends up to be a lie, i feel now that its getting bad and i can see shes taking her dope anger out on me....i feel unsafe in my own home and desperatly want to get out....im on a lease with my apt complex that ends in aug and i have no way to break it i cant pay the amount till the end of aug.....im not quite sure what to do ive talked to my apt complex and they say that both of us would have to sign off the lease i can then transfer into another apt....i fear she will not sign off the lease with me and am flat out afraid to bring it to her attention however my living arrangements have become extremely unsafe, so what can i do? what are my possible options? we share a lease so if i call the police and they find anything in my apt im screwed even tho i do not do heroin because its still my property is there anyway around this?

While it is appreciated when new members post an introduction, there's a polite way to ask for it. Let's try to do so in the future.

Do you have any friends or family you can stay with until the lease expires? Not saying that's the only option, but it would get you out of that environment if you're too afraid to confront your roommate head-on or call the police about her usage. The police, who enforce the law, can only respond with a police action (i.e. possibly arresting your roommate, which may not be a bad idea since heroin is pretty serious stuff), so if that is not a road you want to go down, you'll have to explore other options.

One does have to wonder though, if you knew about this addiction (regardless of her saying she'd quit or not), why did you choose to live with her?

Not sur ehow much courage you have, but you could:
    1) Tell her that if you see her using or find any drugs, you are calling the police. As tenant there, you can call the police.
    2) Tell you are going to report any theft from the apartment to the police.
    3) Tell her life will be hell and filled with cops showing up if she does not sign-off on the lease.
    4) Follow through!

I bet your apartment lease has a "good citizen clause" which means you get in trouble and they can cancel the lease. If she is doing drugs there or has them out, call 911. The cops and come and deal with it. While her room may be private, the common areas (living room) are not. And thus, you can consent for the cops to be there. I promise if they are there and she is shooting up in her bedrom with the door closed, and they smell it, she is getting arrested and/or sent to the hospital. After two or three times, she is not going to want the headache and the complex may kick her out!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

You have, what is considered, an emergency clause wherein you can break your lease for issues that are detrimental to your health, safety, etc. You can notify your landlord in writing that you wish to leave and the reasons - you do not have to go into strict detail - and relocate yourself. Recuperation of any deposits, etc., may require a small claims court action; but, you will be out of the apartment in not be exposed to the issues that rear their ugly head when it comes to heroin addicts.

    Bottom line: GET OUTTA THERE!!!
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence!

As a side note and if you haven't already you should remove all of your belongings from there...particularly valuables.

Her and her druggie friends will steal that stuff in a heartbeat and sell it for their next fix. Druggies = thieves.
