My car was towed for having expired tags

So my car was towed by a city cop because the sticker on the license plate was expired. When he was should proof of paying he turened around and said that the check had probably bounced (lie) I have bank statements to prove it was paid. Then he turned around and said the sticker shows expired. I advised him to check his computer he said it said imcoplete (another lie) it says pending. Then i let him know its been paid I re-showed him the reciept and explained to him again that if it had bounced his computer would have just said cancelled. The car was towed any way. I have been online for hours and all they say is PAY REGISTRATTION PAY REGISTRATION PAY REGISTRATION PERIOD! No where does it state that the sticker should be replaced. I just want to see where it says that i have to do so..
your probably wondering why i didnt change them. Well the day I paid my registration they didnt want to give me the tags because they said my registration had been suspended due to not having insurance so they refused to give me my tags. They didnt tell me this until the second I handed them over the check for the registration fees. I immidiately got on the phone with my insurance and had them fix that problem. They faxed some paperwork over to the dmv and got it all cleared. I went back to the dmv after that to get the tags but both of the times the dmv closed before getting my number called.
I dont want to have an excuse for not replacing my tags. I paid the fees, I should of picjed up the tags. OKAY. But where does it say a penalty for not having to replace to old tags for a new. Thats all I wanna know.

I'd be willing to be your vehicle codes say the tags have to be displayed. Every state I know of does. How else are police going to know if you paid your registration fee?

But, feel free to hire a lawyer to learn that.

This is the edited version of your post?

I'm sure your state law (like the law in other states) requires you to carry a current registration card and to display current plates/stickers/etc... If you don't there are consequences. If you cannot show your registration is valid the officer is likely required by law to tow your car, since an unregistered vehicle cannot be legally driven on a public highway.

In NJ once your reg is suspended due to non-payment of insurance, it isn't automatically updated once you get right with the insurance company again.

You then have to go through a few steps with the DMV.

I am sorry, but your whole post sounds like an excuse.

It's everyone's fault but your own right?

Every 15 y/o dreaming of driving a vehicle knows that you need insurance to drive. In most states the vehicle needs to be insured in order for it to be registered. If you have lived in that state for any short term length, that is something you should know. They told you that at the DMV and explained the steps that you would need to do once the vehicle was insured. Somewhere in there, you dropped the ball.

Calling someone a "liar" when they are obviously in the right is rude and disrespectful. I would go to the station and apologize for my sh***y behavior.

But again, that's what "I" would do..

Additionally they put information about your vehicle tag's in those DMV pamphlets that are handed out for your driving test.

Based on the small portion of your letter that I read, I’m betting your attitude had something to do with it too.

You may have spelled DMV wrong on the check, and the bank wouldn't accept it.

To the OP- try 5204A VC. Then look up the code your vehicle was towed under- 22651(o)VC. I'm assuming that you are in CA, although nowhere in your post do you actually say what state you are living in.....but what's that matter, all the states have exactly the same laws anyways dont they?

If you park your vehicle on a public roadway it must display current registration. A receipt showing you paid registration doesn't mean you have current registration- as a matter of fact it normally doesn't. A receipt means you paid fees. Your registration could still be suspended due to: past unpaid parking tickets, lack of smog certificate, incomplete registration payment, lack of insurance certificate....etc....
