Question Bet you never heard this questions before..

My sister is in the hospital with graves disease right now. A few days before she was admitted, she was in a fight with her boyfriend. (domestic call on record now? Dont know) (Graves disease makes people go mentally and physically NUTS) He would not leave, and she called the police to tell him to leave and the police informed him that he should cease all contact and not allowed near her or the apt. (She told them that is what she wanted) She wants to write a letter to the police to apoligize and explain the situation so that he does not have this on his record. He never hit her, she called it "emtional abuse" to the police officer and did not want him around. (Does it go on his record?) Would she get in trouble if she wrote a letter of apology? Should she send her medical info with the letter, or would that violate hippa law? What should she do? She wants to make it right for him.

I don't know how much good it would do, but sending the information would not violate the hippa law. It's only violated if a medical provider releases the information without the patients consent.

The law you are referencing is known as HIPAA. It is an acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act - a federal law to protect medical patients records and health issues from becoming known to other than those who have a right to know.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides federal protections for personal health information held by covered entities and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information. At the same time, the Privacy Rule is balanced so that it permits the disclosure of personal health information needed for patient care and other important purposes.

The Security Rule specifies a series of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for covered entities to use to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information.
    Understanding Health Information Privacy

Your sister is not restricted by the law. She can tell anyone she desires about her medical condition(s).
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence!

But will it help him? She wants it attached to the incident in case it ever comes up.

What record? You didn't say he was arrested.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Not always. She can call the department and ask them what happened.

No arrest = No record, other than a call log kept by the local Pd saying they responded to such and such location for a verbal domestic and parties were told to seperate for the night.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"
