    School?

    Hey guys.
My best friend is a cop for a really big city, and he told me I should go and get my 2 year degree at college.

I want to be a cop for a department that Requires a 2 year degree to be hired.
He said it's a good thing because if for some reason I ever get hurt on the job or whatnot I have schooling so I can do something else if I wasn't able to continue doing Police work.

My question is, many of my friends at the PD said there mistake was taking Law Enforcement in College. A few of them told me I am better off taking classes that have nothing to do with Law Enforcement and just get my 2 year degree, then get my Post and go through the acadamy at the PD I want to try out for. Why is this? Could I take Law Enforcement if I wanted to since it's something I enjoy anyway?

    Thanks guys.
PS: I might have misunderstood what they were saying, I had to go on a call shortly after and couldn't get more info.

I recommend looking through some of the older threads. Education choices have been discussed ad nauseum. Your questions have already been thoroughly hashed out before.

    Good luck!
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

No, you didn't misunderstand. Suppose you take Criminal Justice in school, and for whatever reason you don't get hired? You will have an education heavy on theory but that has no practical value outside of LE. (and little within it, to be honest.)

No, the guys gave you pretty good advice. Get the degree in something other than Criminal Justice.
