I'm only trying to because I need to drive from my home to my bus stop and back (over a mile of walking with a 25-lb backpack), and my parents are making me wait until 18 to get a license...

And you can't get a ride? Your parents will give you a car to leave at a bus stop all day? Why does that not make sense to me?

Because my parents don't want to pay the insurance. I'm not even kidding. Even though they are PERFECTLY financially able to. And I'm not going to drive illegally, that's why I came on here in the first place...
