    K9's present or not....

Obviously every circumstance and department would be different, that being said, would it ever be useful to use the "threat" of a K9 present if there wasn’t, say to gain compliance at a traffic stop and lessen the possibility someone with nothing to lose would run?
I guess from an average citizen point of view it would be something only to the officer’s gain, I wouldn’t think most morons you’re stopping for anything serious in the first place wouldn’t know the difference and could only prove beneficial, and when there is a K9 and they decide to run anyway, they would be in for a surprise.
Just my logic, which I do imagine may have some serious flaws. I’d be curious as to your thoughts.

    Take care & Stay Safe,

Without going into anything that may compromise tactics, I will tell you that I knew an officer once who had a suspect ACTUALLY running from him.

He yelled that he would release the dog if the man didn't stop.

When that didn't work, he started barking loudly, and the man (who never looked behind him to see where the noise was coming from) gave up rather than get bitten by the "dog" he thought was there.

    Citicop-

Appreciate the response, that had to be something to see. I can just imagine the guy's face after.....Wait no dog
A great point as well. Not as I'm any genius with some ideas that might not occur to someone on here up to trouble....I think it best I save anything remotely in the realm of tactic type questions for an Officer that I know, and can ask in person. If by some chance it's something that could be utilized, all the better.

    Take care-

I made a drug case with my explosives detector. I stopped at a crash scene, big truck v. car. when I saw the driver of the truck I thought he was tweeking. I asked him; see that dog in that truck over there, do I need to get it out or are you going to give me the stuff. He produced some meth. The rest was easy. Of course the dog wouldn't have had any interest at all in the meth, ha ha.
