How does your department handle "Earn and Burn"?

I work for a medium-sized police department and have been asked to consider rewriting its "earn and burn" policy, which explains what will and will not be allowed for officers to earn overtime.

How does your department handle the issue. Can you work and overtime shift and burn your regular shift? Is it based on a 40 hour work week or an 8/10 hour work day?

    Any input is appreciated.

    Two things:

    1) Consider an introduction. Were I to come to your house, open the door and start shouting questions without introducing myself, etc., it would be rude. Similarly, it is rude to do so here.

    2) It is not permitted to make claimes of being LE here without getting verified. Please do a search on how to get verified and seek out verification before doing so again. RP takes pride in those claiming to be LE, actually being LE. We also take pride in banning those who choose to not follow this rule.

    Thanks.

In Oregon, that's dictated by labor laws, not by departmental policy. Any hours over your normal assigned hours per day is OT. Same with weekly, anything over 40 hours is OT.

The only exception are command personnel who are paid on a monthly basis because they are considered management and not subject to many labor laws.

I am not being rude and I'm not shouting...I am seeking input. Many officers would jump at the chance to help in policy making for a department, which is why I posted this here. Additionally, I did not claim to "be" law-enforcement, I said I work for a department. It also should not since I am not giving input, I am seeking it from officers (the only people allowed to answer posts). My ability to seek advice from officers should not depend on whether I am a civilian or officer since I never identified myself as either.

That is a matter of opinion, and I am afraid that yours will not weigh very heavily in the interpretation of TOS.

Again, try an intro and this could have been easily avoided... you know, "Hello, I am LGHTX. I am a _____ for this department. I am fcoming here to find out ___."

It's really not rocket science, but apparently you do not respond well to polite suggestions.
