Trapster: Thoughts About It & How To Get Around It.

I would sincerely like the opinions of regular LEO’s, instead of relying on press releases, concerning a program called Trapster. What do you think about it? And what is the best way for a LEO to circumvent its usage?

In case you haven’t heard about Trapster, it is a program for your phone or GPS unit that alerts J.Q. Driver to the majority of spots where police often “hide” while checking speeds. In addition to live speed-trap updates, it alerts to speed cameras, combo cameras, red light cameras and even checkpoints.

There is an article where a D.C. Police chief denounced the use of Trapster as a “cowardly tactic”…“Designed to circumvent law enforcement -- law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives."

The proponents of Trapster argue that users will slow down when alerted to the locations where police MIGHT hide. They contest that Trapster is more effective at maintaining public safety since the people slow down each time there is an alert.

Again, I would like to hear your opinions regarding Trapster and also any possible ways to circumvent the technology. Thanks.

Circumventing the technology is simplicity itself.

We start watching for violations in different places than the "usual places." That renders the unit useless, as the new places are not listed. Eventually, someone will alert the software of the new places, and we would have to move again. Repeat enough times, and soon EVERYWHERE is listed, and the unit is not worth anything anymore.

It's a long term plan, but really can't fail. ;)

Trapster doesn't bother me. Radar detectors don't bother me. People flashing their headlight to "warn" about a cop car up ahead doesn't bother me.

I don't care at all about that stuff.

I do care about catching burglars, car thiefs and making criminal street gang members worry about us when they venture out.

    But, that's just me.

Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Trapsters pose no problem for dedicated Troopers here in Georgia, as they're constantly on the move and concentrate on getting speeding, drunk and reckless drivers off the highways, as they are killers on wheels.
