Great responses! Thanks for the input. It sounds like the hit-and-run method is the best way to beat Trapster. They say distracted driving is at least as dangerous as drunk driving. I wonder what would happen if drivers started getting nailed for using their phones behind the wheel if they had the program running.

Just a side thought: I know texting and driving is really dangerous, but LEO’s sometimes have to run a search while driving. Is it an occupational hazard if you have to type someone’s tags into the computer while on the move? I know those automated plate scanners are somewhat prevalent in Suffolk County, NY and have probably already paid for themselves, but I don’t know how common they are. Are they worth the price and time it takes to set them up or will they be relegated to departments with bigger budgets?

I'm more afraid of Crapster (tm)- a new device made by the developers of the trunk monkey which flings monkey poo at police officers engaged in traffic control duties.

My department has been forced to issues personal monkey poo forcefields to each officer to protect us from flying monkey poo.

    Will it ever end?

Again, why do you need to know AND/OR why are you asking? Do you work in LE? Are you planning on outfitting a unit/agency?

In CA you get an extra ticket for using an electronic device while driving.

I'm not working for an outfitting company. I just see these trends and I'm curious about where they're heading.

...No, I don't work for law enforcement, but I do find the technology interesting.
