It's 2310 on interstate. Roads are dry. You stop a car 112/60 ?
The driver is 17 has perfect driving record pulls right over & is very behaved not drinking or anything just very stupid trying to get home.

If that was my 17 yr old, I tell you what... That cop better take that kid into protective custody cuz I'm gonna kill him when he gets home. That car is GONE!
**Not a cop**
In my area this 17 year old would be taken to jail. And when I become a LEO I'd probably do the same.
Driving 112 is very dangerous and stupid. And for a 17 year old with very limited driving experience is insane and borderline suicidal. What would happen if a front tire blew? WHat would happen if a car or a deer came out in front of you? You are covering a lot of road in a short amount of time.
OK I'll stop preaching now.... :D
PS- why is he trying to get home so fast?

Do whatever I was allowed to do by law.
So much for the perfect driving record. That is just plain STUPID and RECKLESS.

Let me guess...This is you? LMAO...;)
I am not an officer so I will keep my comment personal. All I can tell you is that one time I got a ticket, *with a clean record I might add* for 10 over.
Now maybe nobody was on the road, but what if an animal had jumped out infront of the driver and caused the driver to crash, which in turn this accident causes an officer to either spend time making sure the driver gets scrapped off of a tree or the road and then oh yes then on to the fun part...calling mom and dad!
Or the driver survives the accident and then winds up in a hospital for a while with who knows what broken. Causing someone else a lot of medical dough! Miss a crap load of school and on and on. More anquish.
Or the last senario, the driver never gets caught and continues to do this until one day they do meet up with someone else on the road and kills them.
To me it is reckless. And I would issue at ticket...perhaps for the full amount over. I am sure their is a limit. Like 20 over. Which is Reckless/careless I don't know. The driver then gets a significant fine and a significant amount of points and then maybe, just maybe that driver will learn why they post these stupid signs with limits written on them all over the highway/interstate.
I don't know that is just me. Again I am not an officer, but if I was I know I could find better things to do with my time than scrap this driver or the one driver/family/friend/pedestrial that they may kill of the road because they can't just phone someone to tell them that they are either tired, don't feel good, or simply just don't want to drive themself home.
Edited to add: Now if this was the AutoBon...I would have left that driver in the dust!

112/60 zone = a $229 fine, 5 points, mandatory 15 day suspension of the drivers license and Reckless Driving= $250 fine plus 6 months loss of license and a mandatory high speed hearing at the DMV ( 31 or more over the limit).
REGARDLESS of the road conditions, attitude of the driver, lack of alcohol etc, I would write the fine AND call the parents.
Such driving by anyone on a public highway shows a COMPLETE disregard for the safety of others and him/her self.
The traffic laws are not optional because the roads are deserted or it is late at night.

112 MP/h converts to about 180km/h...I have never even gotten a vehicle that fast in my life, that to me is way too fast. Obviously when I was 17 I wouldn't have wanted a ticket that bad on my record, so I wouldn't have sped that much...to me, the kid showed total disregard for himself and the public.

I'm digging my way to something better
He would be making friends with Bubba for the night. In AZ anything 21 mph or over is criminal. He would be hooked, the car would be towed and mom and dad would definitely be called. I'm not even a big fan of driving that fast but sometimes i have to. I have seen what happens when you hit something at high speed, not quite 112 but the car didn't look so good and as for the driver...i imagine it was a closed casket. Perfect record, not anymore. Just being stupid, hopefully not anymore.
I would much rather have to go pick my kid up at the jail than at the morgue.
mcsap, does PA. jail individuals for that kind of speeding? When I did my ride along with the county police, the officer I rode with said that he arrests anyone speeding at triple digit speeds.Originally Posted by mcsap

Unlike what I see on COPS, there is NO speeding offense for which jail time is mandatory or even optional on part of the judge in PA. You could do 150 /60 zone and the speeding ticket would just cost more. Now at outrageous speeds, we can move up to Reckless Driving ( still a summary traffic ticket , max $250 fine) or Reckless Endangerment which is a M-1 Criminal Charge.
We also cannot lock up someone for driving under suspension as they are caught. Even if it is their 15 th offense and even if they are DUI suspended which is a mandatory $1,000 and 90 days. The penalty does not go into effect until they plead or are found guilty. I know DC says how he locks them up for DUS, we can't.
Our tickets are a little $$, 15 over will cost you $125.
Do 11 or more over in an active ( people are working) construction zone and you will get a 15 day suspension. So SLOW down in our construction zones. And this is on ANY road, 4 lane or 2.

I don't know how it is in PA, but around here 30 MPH (I think) over is Reckless Driving, meaning we pull them out of the car. At 20 over, they get to see the judge, with mandatory driving school.Originally Posted by mcsap

Up until about 6 years ago, Fleeing from the police was only a summary traffic ticket. $200 fine and 6 month suspension.
You could chase them all over town, catch them, give them a few tickets and let them drive off !! Now it's a Misd 2nd.

Here it's 35+ is a $400 ticket and $10 for every mile per hour over 35. I wrote a ticket for 41 over last year. (96 in a 55) Even a 10 over ticket is criminal here, Misd C.
Running from us is a 3rd degree felony. Even if you stop a car on a regular traffic stop and either the driver or passenger runs, it's felony fleeing. As of this year it doesn't matter if you run in the car or on foot, as long as the were in a car at some point, it's a felony.
