BB gun question

In IL is it legal to fire a BB gun (not air soft nor is it Co2 powered) on your property and shooting at things only belonging to you? It look some what real but make almost no noise. If a naber sees you shooting the BB gun on you own property shooting only your own property and calls the law, could you get in trouble?

The BB gun is within the constraints according to the FOID Act: pneumatic gun, spring gun, paint ball gun or B-B gun which either expels a single globular projectile not exceeding .18 inch in diameter and which has a maximum muzzle velocity of less than 700 feet per second or breakable paint balls containing washable marking colors

Will shooting out pellets (not the round BB) change any of this?

Naber? NABER?! You can spell (or cut/paste) pneumatic, globular, projectile, diameter, maximum, velocity, constraints, etal but not the word for the people who live next door/close to you?

If you are doing ANYTHING that might compromise the safety/welfare of others, you can get into trouble - doesn't matter if you're on your own property or not. I suggest you shoot indoors or somewhere intended/open for that activity.

No one would be in danger. It only shoots like 280-300 fps any way. There aren't any houses that live behind us.

There are local ordinances with affect your ability to fire air rifles also. For example my city prohibits all firing of air rifles in the city limits, however the county does not have this prohibition. It usually comes to our attention when some dimwit is out in public firing one off and someone dials 911 to report someone with a gun walking around. I'm sure you can guess what kind of welcome that person gets when we show up.

Depends entirely on local ordinances.

I set up a target in my back yard and my grandkids and I shoot my Daisy Red Ryder all the time there.

Some cities prohibit it though. You have to check with your local police.

Here, BB and pellet guns are a no go.

So, I have to take the kid to the local pistol range to shoot his.
