After going through the NYPD's hiring process I've recently been disqualified. I received a letter from the Psych. Services stating some characterisitics they found do not fit with qualifications of Police Officer. I have the chance to appeal. My concern is, if I appeal and still get disqualified, will I barred from NYPD employment permanently? Or do i have an option to wait a year or so, and re-apply instead of appealing? I want to make an informed decision on my next move because I still plan on pursuing a career in law enforcement. Also, I was wondering if I appeal and get rejected if that would look worse when/if I apply to other departments?

In the history of the appeal process since 1999, there have been several hundred appeals, last count was around 850+, all with lawyers and private docs doing the appeal for you at a cost of over $5K each. TWO have been overturned and the applicant moved on. One was DQ on background info. One was hired and later DOLED off. That is less than 1% sucess rate. Forget about it...wait 36 months and reapply with a clean slate!
