    Disqualified from NYPD? few concerns-questions

After going through the NYPD's hiring process I've recently been disqualified. I received a letter from the Psych. Services stating some characterisitics they found do not fit with qualifications of Police Officer. I have the chance to appeal. My concern is, if I appeal and still get disqualified, will I barred from NYPD employment permanently? Or do i have an option to wait a year or so, and re-apply instead of appealing? I want to make an informed decision on my next move because I still plan on pursuing a career in law enforcement. Also, I was wondering if I appeal and get rejected if that would look worse when/if I apply to other departments?
    -Thanks in advance

In the history of the appeal process since 1999, there have been several hundred appeals, last count was around 850+, all with lawyers and private docs doing the appeal for you at a cost of over $5K each. TWO have been overturned and the applicant moved on. One was DQ on background info. One was hired and later DOLED off. That is less than 1% sucess rate. Forget about it...wait 36 months and reapply with a clean slate!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

I already sent in the appeal letter. I spoke with my investigator and brought up the possibility of waiting a year and re-applying. She said to appeal if I feel I am fit for the job and was not to clear as to my options for reapplying late on. What do you think about me rescinding my appeal and reapplying in a year? I'm worried if I don't appeal now, the NYPD may not let me re-apply? I just want to go about this in the smartest way. I appreciate your response.

No one is telling you not to appeal, just that the odds are not in your favor. If you're old enough to apply to become a cop, you're a big boy now and can decide what is best for you. You've been given feedback on the likelihood of winning an appeal, now make a big boy decision based on the information provided.
