are there "liberals" in law enforcement?

I've never come across anyone in law enforcement that has ever expressed any liberal veiws I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that but I'm starting to think they don't join law enforcement. "Liberal" defined as in mostely of left wing veiws, in law enforcement; do they exist?

Of course they do. I have a couple guys in my department who hold liberal views and I find nothing better than debating with them and watching their eyes bug out, and their cheeks grow redder and redder, when I shoot down all of their nutty beliefs with cold hard facts. The debates normally end with, "You...you....you're just.....mean and stupid!!!"

There are police officers who identify with every aspect of society, from every category and sub-category there is, every religion, every political belief set, every race, ethnic group, hobby, etc.

    Are cops predominately conservative? Yes.
Are ALL of them conservative? No.

We have a few. Most have to turn a blind side to what they see in real life to reconcile it with their political views. All but the most hardheaded change with time on the job though.

We have a few, but they are mostly in administrative positions and are more concerned with the politics of the job and how being associated with a specific party will benefit them. It is very hard to do this job and not agree with Conservative principals.

i LOVE watching the debates between the two sides. Sometimes some do it just to get a reaction by taking the unpopular view.

Ours aren't so much liberal as just politically correct. And if they weren't, they wouldn't be in management.

After about 20 years or so, you've had some history with just about everyone in management and knew them "back when". I always enjoyed watching some nearly choke on their words when they were trying to appease the politicians and public.

That doesn't mean I trusted them any more, they would still sell me in a heartbeat to buy 15 seconds of fame.

True enough for me. More liberal views in college.

But I have definitely grown very conservative in my few short years on the job.

    I probably am too!

Socially, I'm fairly liberal. I couldn't care less if gay people marry and I believe in peoples' right to privacy and due process. It scares me to see the government run roughshod over American's rights when something like 9-11 happen. FDR was one of the most liberal presidents in history, but he violated the rights of a lot of Japanese and German Americans during WWII. Even J. Edgar Hoover told him the internment camps weren't necessary. The ink on the Patriot Act wasn't dry before the FBI was abusing it.

As I've said many times, I don't want the government in my life any more than absolutely necessary. The way I see it is that the courts are protecting my rights as much as the crooks. Anything the police can do to anyone else, they can do to me. I've had a taste of abusive police tactics on a IA investigation on me, it's not fun.

But I also believe strongly in personal responsibility for your actions, something most liberals don't get. I think we need to take care of the people who CAN'T take care of themselves, but not those who just want us to take care of them. Any welfare should be short term with strong conditions attached. Sometimes people fall into hard times and need a little help, but not the blanket crap that LBJ started in the 60's. I don't trust the government with money and if I were king, there would be continuing audits of all spending and people would be held directly accountable for waste.

There aren't that many of us. I have to admit when I first joined I was on the left in terms of politics, in a few short years after graduating from the Academy I tended towards being somewhat conservative (but couldn't bring myself to vote along those lines, I just muttered a lot under my breath) but then I rehabilitated myself and moved back to the left again. It's entirely possible to be on the left and be a police officer, you just have to do your job and leave your politics at the back door of the police station when you come to work. In fact all of us should do that I suppose.

Yes there are! They are the malcontents and morons who come here to tell their tall tales of how some Cop shirked his duty or was too stupid to see their "big picture".

Always get a kick out of the posts that start off with ".......I have the greatest respect for you and your profession.........." and then go on to ask a question that no Cop on this forum can possible answer because they weren't there. The OP was, why didn't he ask the Cop on the scene? Oh, I know.........the OP didn't have time to slant and color their question and story with the on scene Officer. LOL
