Always get a kick out of the posts that start off with ".......I have the greatest respect for you and your profession.........." and then go on to ask a question that no Cop on this forum can possible answer because they weren't there. The OP was, why didn't he ask the Cop on the scene? Oh, I know.........the OP didn't have time to slant and color their question and story with the on scene Officer. LOL
Glad to see you're still alive!

It scares me to see the government run roughshod over American's rights when something like 9-11 happen. FDR was one of the most liberal presidents in history, but he violated the rights of a lot of Japanese and German Americans during WWII. Even J. Edgar Hoover told him the internment camps weren't necessary. The ink on the Patriot Act wasn't dry before the FBI was abusing it.

As I've said many times, I don't want the government in my life any more than absolutely necessary. The way I see it is that the courts are protecting my rights as much as the crooks. Anything the police can do to anyone else, they can do to me. I've had a taste of abusive police tactics on a IA investigation on me, it's not fun.

But I also believe strongly in personal responsibility for your actions, something most liberals don't get. I think we need to take care of the people who CAN'T take care of themselves, but not those who just want us to take care of them. Any welfare should be short term with strong conditions attached. Sometimes people fall into hard times and need a little help, but not the blanket crap that LBJ started in the 60's. I don't trust the government with money and if I were king, there would be continuing audits of all spending and people would be held directly accountable for waste.
I have to say I really enjoyed reading that post, and I really agree with a lot of your veiws.

Oh, my comment about the big picture in Afghanistan? Is that the one? But RKT hasn't posted in that thread and he hasn't called me a malcontent or moron, not in a pm, so I don't know, I think you've read it wrong Cat_Doc.

Maybe I did, I am getting up there in age.

I thought RKT was referring to the thread about the cop in the church parking lot who allegedly did not drive a few yards to assist with a MVA on the street.

Any Cop that carries an IACP membership card could probably qualify, if they really pay attention to whats going on.

I know the IACP was pretty PC a few years ago, even lobbying against LEOSA, and I can't imagine it getting any better.

I'm about the same as RetDetSgt. I'm extremely socially liberal, but on many issues (welfare, responsibility, etc) I find myself right-of-center. It's hard for me to say I'm "liberal" or "conservative" because I'm a gay rights-loving, gun-toting, First Amendment-respecting, Fourth Amendment-abiding cop.
