Anybody ever read Plum Island, by Nelson Demille? Good book. Check it out, especially the NY people.

About 30 years ago I saw a hilarious picture, I wish I had it to post.
It was the picture of a man wearing a black suit, white shirt, thin black tie and a black fedora. He was sitting on a Cushman motor scooter and the caption was "The FBI attempts to infiltrate outlaw biker gangs".

I was local and now am federal. When I was local we had a suspect in our city wanted by ATF. They asked us to look out for him, but not go banging on the door looking for him. I had the occasion to do a traffic stop on a car that was normally parked in the driveway of the house this suspect was supposed to be staying at. It turned out during the traffic stop the mope rode by on a bicycle and off to jail he went. I received a nice letter of appreciation for my assistance arresting their fugitive. My experience working with the feds while local was always a good experience.
When I went CBP an obviously less than mainstream LEO position, I've had more trouble with the state police showing attitude than anything else. I can normally shut them up by telling the arrogant arses to keep looking for your grams of dope and I'll keep looking for the kilos coming in and walking away.
I think if there is an attitude it is normally from people who haven't been on the other side of the federal/local line.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
Not always though. We had an FBI SA who was a former Dallas Tx PD officer. When we were working a drug task force, he "gave me an order" that I refused to do in regards to the utilization of my men. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him to go "f**k himself after he DEMANDED I do what he said. He didn't think I was allowed to do that.....I'm sure he was looking for some federal statute to charge me with .
He made a complaint to my captain and was told again that I didn't work for the FBI and he concurred with my decision. The ASAC then demanded I be pulled off the task force and my captain (bless his heart!) replied that if he pulled me, he pulled everyone from my dept. Since it was one of our guys that was doing the UC buys, that ended that little drama.
The original spat wasn't a big deal, but it was the fact their fragile little egos were shattered that was the problem.
And yeah, I worked with BATF every time I got the chance. Well, same with all other feds. I rarely ran into egos with other federal agencies.
