    Missouri Gun Laws

Good morning all! First time poster....

A little background first...I'm a 31 year old male, with a DUI on my record from 7+ years ago. My wife is 29, no record. 4 month old son...no record =)

My wife has always been worried about break in's and has expressed her desire to own a gun. I've never been a big fan of guns but was not against it. Recently her boss loaned her a Kel Tec 9mm Luger. She brought it home and is in a safe place in its case.

I've read online that this is legal but I just wanted to get some advice from real police.

We want to learn about the gun. I have been around guns enough that I know how to load and unload the clip and check the chamber to see if it's loaded or unloaded. I know about the safety...basically the basics. My wife has never fired a gun.

Questions are: Is this legal for us to have this gun in our home with out it being registered to us? Would it be legal for us to travel to a shooting range to meet my brother whom is a gun expert? Would there be any reason for us to need a conceal permit? Would we need one if we were on a road trip?

Two more questions...If we were driving to the shooting range with the pistol in it's case, where should we stow it and if we were to be pulled over for any reason, what should I do to inform the police officer that I have a gun in the vehicle.

Thanks to all who take their time to read this and to those who respond!

    Jacob

Those are great questions Jacob. I appreciate your concern for doing things the right way. Your questions should be able to be answered by any local LE officer. Gun requirements are different in each state. Even though I use to live in Missouri, I am not current with their gun laws. Be Safe.

I agree with the previous post. Here is a quick reference to firearms possession in MO.

Missouri Gun Laws - What are the Gun Laws in Missouri?

I would suggest taking a safety course through the NRA in your town. Learn handgun safety, how to fire the weapon, when you can legally discharge the weapon, etc.

Here is some information for a firearms safety course. "Bass Pro Shops" are the instructors.

    Missouri

Perhaps they have a course near you.

Good luck and keep the weapon away from your child!

Great! Thanks for the advice guys. From what I read MO gun laws are pretty lax. I'll see what they say. And Bear the last thing my son will touch is a gun, believe me! Thanks again for the replies!
