Do I have a chance at all

Are applicants who saw a shrink when they were under 18 always rejected at the psych phase. Does it make it very hard for them to pass the psych exam.
Does anyone know of an officer who saw a psychologist when they were younger and was hired. The psychologist told my mother nothing was wrong with me. My diagnosis was not a major problem when compared to other people. I know they will ask for records. Will this issue make it hard for me to pass. How do police agencies view applicants who saw a shrink at an age under 18. I get the feeling they might not give people who saw a shrink a chance. Hopefully someone who knows alot about these issues can respond.

Today during a break one of the guys actually asked an instructor if it was an issue. He said this: (not in exact words)...
As long as you weren't diagnosed with any mental ailments (depression etc...), then you have nothing to worry about. Simply be honest...ie "sir/maa'm, I was going through a rough time in life (breakup, death in family etc...) and needed somebody to talk to".

This is just what I heard...I'm only in the Academy at this point...the LEO's might have better advice.

    Good luck

Seeing a shrink does NOT mean a person is crazy. Some people just need a little help with emotional /family issues. It actually shows a willingness to get help instead of running away from a problem.

As long as you were not diagnosed with a mental disease or ongoing problem which could in any way affect you performance as an LEO, you shouild be just fine.

I would think that if Uncle Sam will take you, any PD would take you.

    Yeah,
Mr. Recruiter asked me about how my integrety is. I think he wants me to lie about my history but I am proud to say that I overcame something that at one point made my life very difficult. Its just a learning aliment nothing more. I am very happy, and I think that if I stay with my department that im an explorer with that I will be okay. I would never, ever lie on any application and I try to be truthfull everyday. Granted I cant say that I never lie but yeah I do my best not to.

Honesty is always the best policy UNLESS your girlfriend asks you if she looks fat .

Lol, THAT is a lose-lose situation, and like you said, the only one that you should not be honest on.

Shrinks are not a definite DQ from the application process, however you should be forthcoming with information because it will raise some eyebrows. If you were given a clan bill of health, you should be a "go".

Even Tony Soprano sees a shrink and he wasn't wacked.....well almost...!!!

Good Luck and see you in Blue!
