    Do you sympathize with psychopaths?

As police officers, do you ever feel sorry for people who truly have no conscience? I'm not saying their actions should ever be condoned, especially if they commit heinous crimes (eg murder, rape etc), but do you ever sympathize with them and try to understand why they're psychologically lacking something?

I kind of like CoC, but I don't have the energy to try and figure him out.

Our system is messed up because too many people "feel sorry" for people who are just bad people. Not every person that commits a crime is evil, but there are evil people out there, and trying to sympathize with them does absolutely nothing for the victims or society in general. There's a great quote in the Dark Knight movie, "some men just want to watch the world burn," understanding people who have no remorse for their crimes or conscience about their actions towards others is not only a fruitless endeavor, it's the biggest waste of time and resources in our criminal justice system.

Psychopaths have no conscience? I thought that Sociopaths were the ones lacking conscience/remorse.

Psychopaths act out explosively with little planning to their actions. Sociopaths (Ted Bundy) scheme and enjoy killing and plan to continue.

I have little pity for either

    Feel sorry for them?

    Am I supposed to??

I'm not saying their actions should ever be condoned, especially if they commit heinous crimes (eg murder, rape etc),
So you don't condone criminal acts?

Do you deplore or condemn such acts?

Do you think murdering or raping someone is BAD, or is it just 'not recommended'?

but do you ever sympathize with them and try to understand why they're psychologically lacking something?
Never been a victim of a crime, have you?

What kind of screwed up thought processes even think up these kind of questions?

No, never. I don't spend that much time with any violators, much less try to figure them out. Maybe I don't have a conscience? Be Safe.

No!! never.. Cops are not paid to be psychologists and to figure out the hows and whys of how an unconscionable SOB (pardon my language, but I get carried away on this subject) can rape, torture, maim, cripple, mutilate, batter, mangle and murder an innocent child, woman, man or animal.
We just do our best to apprehend and prosecute these saddists to the fullest extent of the law..What the courts do with them, is out of our hands.

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking a bunch of Masochists if they sympathise with Psychopaths.

Those of us with psychoneurosis or schizoid personality couldn't... unless we had dysfunctional assumptions, or were like me, who has dysmnesic syndrome. As a result, I spend a lot of time in dysphoria. Sometimes I have myxedema, because of this.

BTW, old Sociopaths are the new Dyssocial.
