To add another personal story, I live in a Subdivision that has some fairly strict HOA rules, but they also have a Clubhouse/Pool that they rent out for parties, weddings, etc. on a fairly regular basis.
My back yard happens to be about 100 yards from it thru a small woodsy common area along a walking trail that leads up to it.
According to the rules, these people are supposed to all be cleaned up and gone prior to 11 PM, but there have been plenty of times that I allowed my wife to call my local guys even prior to, when the noise became obnoxious and interfered with my watching Mythbusters or something.
My City has a noise ordinance as well, and with it the LEO can take action if he hears it outside of the "protected zone", but they normally warn them unless they get return calls.
The way I see it, its kind of what I pay tax dollars for and noise complaints are part of the job.
The best part is that if they become too obnoxious, I can always call up the HOA Office the next day and complain. I've been told that they lose their deposit when that happens.
I have had a neighbor who errantly gave their 11 year old a set of drums for Christmas a few years ago. After a few weekends of that on otherwise peaceful Sundays, my wife couldn't handle it any more and she dropped a dime, unbeknownst to me. We get along with them fine, but the neighbor wife is very sensitive to any criticism or things like that. Fortunately there were enough other neighbors who were suffering just as we were, we discovered at the next neighborhood party shortly afterwards.
Noise doesn't bother me anything near like it bothers my wife. I suspect it comes from years of unsquelched Police Radios, scanners, siren's, etc. on a routine basis. I just can't hear nearly as well as she, either.![]()
