Buying a gun out of state

If I wanted to buy a hand gun while not in my home state of Iowa does it have to be shipped to a FFL holder in my state? I asked the gun store in town and he said that he has never had a situation like that. He has only had guns shipped to him that were purchased online from out of state.

    I searched Iowa Code Sections 483A.35, 483A.36, 724.1
    through 724.30 and 902.7 and Chapter 571-51(481A) and 571-
61.5(461A) and I could not see my answer. I also did a search for federal laws but I did not see anything that , I believe, pertained to me.

Lets say I live not far from Sioux City, Iowa and there is a gun store in North Sioux City, South Dakota that I would like to buy from, would this violate any federal laws? Do I have to abide by my states laws or their states laws.

Like I said; I have already asked a gun store owner in my town and he was not able to give me a clear answer. Any help?

No, because the original store you purchase it from will hold the ATF records for transferring the gun to you, no matter what state you purchase it in.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

I bought a gun on line from a gun dealer. He told me he had to ship it to a FFL person. I checked around and the local dealers said they would charge me about 10 bucks or so to do the transfer. Then I remembered a retired coworker has one so I had it shipped to him. I gave the paperwork to him and to my knowledge, he sent it to the on line dealer. This was about 10 years ago.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

As of recently I've had the same issue (i don't own anything other than a storage unit and a PO box - so naturally it's in Nevada so i don't have to pay state income tax) and have been told by several gun dealers that if you buy from a dealer that dealer HAS to ship it to a licensed dealer in the state that you have a drivers license from. a Texas dealer actually refused to even let me LOOK at a gun because i had an out of state license, MN said i could buy in person but he would still have to ship to a dealer in Nevada (MN also requires you to do your own background check at the Sheriffs department and bring that certification to the dealer). Gun shows are a whole different animal. that being said i would think different states have different laws and the best people to check with would probably be the Sheriff department in the Jurisdiction of the County you want to purchase the firearm from. Local laws where you buy the gun and federal laws are the only ones that will have anything to say about how you have to go about purchasing the firearm (if your allowed). and once it's been bought, it's all transportation and ownership laws wherever you transport or own.
unfortunately off the street, but working on a 2-Year CJ Degree (40% Finished).

Yea though I walk through the valley of no radio reception, with backup in excess of 40 miles away I shall fear no evil, for I am a warrior, for whom the ranchers have an affinity, and they can take the head off a gopher at 200 yards.

Except for active duty military, you will need the
handgun shipped to a FFL dealer in your Home state.
Any handgun sale across state lines would require this
    except for antique firearms.

Yeah, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express this week.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
