At the toll plazas on the Thruway, I occassionally see what appears to be decommissioned NYSP crusiers with a Thruway seal on the door and a Streethawk lightbar on the roof. I assume these belong to the "uniformed forces of the NYS Thruway" as the CPL refers to them.
My question is what do they actually do? I have never seen the car anywhere other than parked off to the side of the toll plaza, much less with its lights on, or engaging in any type of law enforcement activity.

The lights are actually orange when activated. And the vehicles areused by Turnpike personnel for their duties (foreman, inspector, administrators, etc...)
