I imagine in vehicle data varies greatly by department, but as a whole is paperwork (vehicle owner), getting phased out by what's available by the mobile terminals?

Only ask out of curiosity of a recent incident. Officer had to pull a scene from something that occurred while vehicle was in motion, only had to confirm with me verbally. Lic./Reg./Ins., Not required, only verbal confirmation by tags.

Now this was no violation on my part or anyone else present involved.

I do imagine this would also vary greatly depending on the individual, the vehicle in question, and anything along those lines correct?

That's what they told us back in 1992ish, when they put all those 486s in Booking. Hasn't happened yet. If anything, the paper quagmire has gotten deeper. There's just more typing involved instead of hand-writing it.

I think we're down to 2 or 3 working MDTs in the command that aren't supervisor or unmarkeds. We probably have 20-30 vehicles.

I never thought it was that bad either.... The better job I did on the paperwork, the easier it was if it went to court. Sometimes it even lead to a guilty plea.

I think the OP is asking if hard copy registration, insurance, driver's license is being phased out because of data available via MDT's.

The answer (if I am correct in my interpretation of a poorly worded post): No. You will always have to provide the hard copies upon demand.

You're right, I misread it too.

Personally, I wouldn't want to give up my hard copies. That way I know everything is up to date.

Stats are becoming more important to office drones, I suspect. Before I left, all the reports were revamped for easier data entry and asking things no one ever cared about before.

Real cops have to be out there working to create fodder for the non participants to feed off of and justify their existence.
