    Huntsville Police Academy?

Does anyone know if the Huntsville Alabama Police Academy is a closed campus, meaning are you required to stay on campus or do you return home daily? I am working to my goal of becoming a Officer and was just looking for more information on what to expect. Thanks for allowing me to belong to this great site.

I went to the Huntsville PD academy once for advanced training, and don't believe it was a live-in academy (i.e. you go home at night), though that could have changed.

I'm not aware of any Huntsville, AL PD officers on this site, so your best response may be got by calling the department directly.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately Huntsville Academy not the easiest people to get an answer from, I have emailed a few times but only one response, I think they may be really busy or something. There Academy is 18 weeks long how does that compare to other academies? You said you went there for some training, what was your impression of the academy? Thanks for your help.

At a minimum, APOSTC requires 480 hours of basic training (approximately 12 weeks). Some agencies have more than the minimum, and the state troopers have the longest (approx 800 hours, or about 20 weeks), so comparatively speaking, Huntsville PD's is somewhere in the middle.

It was decent enough for what we needed, but I was only there for 3 days, and only saw one classroom, the hallways, and the men's restroom.
