US law vs. laws of another country

Do police departments and sheriff offices expect prospective candidates to obey the laws of the US even if they are in another country with different laws?
For example, I am a 19 year old American student in Mexico where the drinking age is 18. Because I am drinking here, would that be a problem if I was to ever apply to become a police officer?
    Gracias!

Depends on the law. If you were in a country where sex with children was legal or drugs were legal/tolerated and you engaged in either activity you wouldn't get hired. Drinking at 18 not a big deal.

It certainly would if you were to get stupid and drunk and get yourself arrested.

re: the drinking age, I'd say if you were out of the country drinking illegally, that wouldnt' be an issue. Alcohol becomes an issue when you do it
    a) illegally
    or
    b) excessively

As for other laws, it depends.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.
