    Copy of Ticket

I was pulled over for speeding on the Interstate four hours from home, and shortly after pulling away, I realized the cop neglected to give me a copy of the ticket. I did sign the ticket, and handed it back to the cop. Will I be mailed a copy? I have a perfect driving record, and despite the distance from home I think it would be worth my time to contest it, but I don't know how to get more information. I'm not even entirely sure what county I was driving through at the time. Is there any chance I will be given a break at all since I wasn't given a copy?

Also, does anyone know what is considered "reckless" driving in the state of Virginia? I've been told anything over 80, but also that it this is no longer the case.

Thanks very much for your help!

If you aren't mailed a copy, I am certain that your state dmv will be in contact with you.

Regardless, it is not a circumstance in which you can escape from the charge, otherwise people would claim they were never given the ticket when they in fact either lost it or destroyed it.

Surely you know of have an estimation of where you were when you were stopped. If not, perhaps you should have pulled over and taken a nap.

Reckless definitions are different state to state, and can involve a myriad of circumstances and elements.

In my state, going faster than 30 mph over the posted speed is its own element and is considered to be "Reckless".

Our DA GENERALLY won't file reckless driving unless there are at least three moving violations involved. Depends on the circumstances though as well.

Was it a State Trooper that gave you a ticket or a local officer?

    More info...

It was an unmarked vehicle, but the officer was dressed in brown. I hear it's rare for a county cop to pull people over on the Interstate, but that must have been the case. I can make an estimate as to what county it may have been based on the approximate mile marker at the time.

But that contact may be to say "you driving privedges have been suspended" so be proactive.

You can go to the Virginia courts website and look for your charge by county. It is easier if you can narrow it down to a few different counties because you have to search by each individual county, but at least it's the same website. The website address is ---> http://epwsgdp1.courts.state.va.us/g...do?index=index

Reckless Driving in Virginia depends on the speed zone, generally on an interstate it applies if you exceed the speed limit by 20mph or any speed over 80mph regardless of the speed limit. If you were charged with RD then you can't prepay the violation and are required to appear.
