    Need gear...!

Me and another student at my school go an internship with school police and then one later on with the local pd. But the school told us we must furnish all our own gear and its fairly expensive for 2 students to buy. Anybody got used equipment they can donate or sell?

First of all, it's, "Another student and I..."

Next, I agree with your about police gear being expensive for students.

Finally, I think you are lucky. Generally, interns don't need a lot more gear than a (often issued) polo shirt and some ink pens. Most internships with which I am familiar are focus on administrative support in the office.

We do more field work, than office stuff, we get shirts thats it. We had to buy our own pants and they want us to buy other stuff too. Guess the economy is also hurting L.E. as well.

What stuff could you possibly need? You are nothing more than a ride-along, getting college credit. It doesn't take a lot of equipment to watch, listen and learn.

Lol! Ah its guna take a few Special ed teachers for me to learn, Jk. They wan't us to carry a flashlight, gloves, handcuffs, Handcuff key, and Pepper spray. But this crap is kinda pricy. I think i'll ask if i can just bring a baseball bat and lantern.

Ps. idk why we need handcuffs, we can't arrest people...?

Oh, I am not intending to knock you at all. It seems wrong to me that they require you to buy stuff that you will not likely use. It seems more prudent for them to have a couple items on hand to "loan out" to interns during their rides, if they think they are so "needed."

Again, not to slam you at all. I remember how hard up for money people were in college. I was lucky, I had some money from the Army, GI bill and then ROTC. All the while, my twin was selling plasma.

They actually want you to pay for and wear your own pants?

    That just sucks.

Having you in the field without training with a canister of pepper spray etc screams liability to me.

We aren't authorized to use any force unless we have been hit ourselves or our officer is incapacitated, if worst comes to worst, i can just unlock the 870 express and unload 12ga. at em. But hopefully i'll never have to use any force at all.

YOu have got to be kidding! I cannot believe that, under any circumstance, you would be allowed access to a secured weapon.

Welp they never said that, but if someone were to fire upon us and strike my officer (although i literaly pray they won't), im not just guna sit there and no dothing idley if im being fired upon. I know my way around a fire arm very well, as i own 13. If the department were to throw me in jail for using a fire arm under these circumstances that would be completely obsurd!
