If not hired to department of choice...

I know that this is my choice, but I just wanted some feedback from others. I'm a college student in Texas, and in about a year and a half will start applying for jobs after college. I will probably for the most part stay in texas because I wouldn't be able to afford all the travel expenses of looking out of state(Atlanta being an exception because of family). I've been thinking a lot about joining the military after college for the past couple of years, so if I was not hired by a department that I would prefer to work at I think I will go ahead and join the military, instead of joining some agency just to have a job. Does that sound like a good idea.

WIth a degree, and no other problems, you should be able to land a job. Military is great but as has been said it is a COMMITTMENT. You can't resign.

Just because you don't get hired to your department of choice, you can get some experience from that department and transfer to another one. A lot of departments want applicants or transfers with sworn law enforcement experience. Having military in your background might not be enough to be hired at your "choice" department.

    Just something to think about.

I know military is a commitment I have a cousin in the military now and about 7 other relatives who served including my mother and my dad who spent his 20 yrs. What I'm trying to say there is about 5-6 cities I would like to work at, if I don't get those jobs going to the military would still to me be a good Idea because I've being wanting to do it for years anyway.

    Sorry,

Your choice is a poor one. LE experience does not compare to the military. Actual LE experience is valuable.

What you learn in a couple of years being a cop will help you go where you want rather than being stuck starting over with nothing more than a military background.
