    Another "What are my chances"???

    Hi all,
I was fired a couple years ago for "Improper acquisition of company assets" (basically theft). Over the course of my time employed there, I hadn't paid for some sodas that I had drank, and when LP was in questioning workers about a completely different incident and asked if I had ever taken ANYTHING from the store, I told him about the sodas...5 days later I was fired. Other than this incident, I am squeaky clean. How much will this affect my chances for gaining employment as an officer? Is this and instant "Game Over"? And thank you in advance to all who reply.

Probably won't disqualify you, but is there any people out there who haven't committed a crime these days?

Probably not if you're up front about it. A friend of mine's son was canned from a grocery store for taking a drink out of an expired milk container he was pouring out anyway. Stores have a zero tolerance for anything like that.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Actually....no, for my part there isnt anything more to the story. The merchandise that LP was questioning people about went missing AFTER I had gone on vacation for a couple weeks to celebrate graduating from college. My manager even said I hadnt been there, but he was talkin to everybody about everything. So, when he asked If I had ever taken ANYTHING, I told him about the sodas. There is no more, no less, and thats what on the paperwork.

If that's what they'll tell you BI, you should be okay. It will depend on the rest of your background investigation though.

First it was A soda, now it is SOME sodas. Which is it?

Also, why are you asking the same thing again that you asked at the beginning of this month?

First, it wasSOME good sir...unfortunatly I wasnt keeping count but I can tell you it was in the single digits, not all at once, and were drank while working because it gets darn hot workin outside on peoples cars in 100+ heat (and NO im not making excuses for my actions).

Second, The last time I looked at my last post I didnt find the answers very informative. Hence, I decided to post in an area where I could gain some insite from those who have been through the process, and could provide the most factual information.

And lastly, I would probably take the time to recheck my last post, but I do believe the site server needs a serious upgrade, as it takes FOREVER to load a page, which in turn makes it much more efficient to repost, and in this case gain much better results.

Well if the owners didn't have to keep replacing all the stolen soda's they would upgrade!

lol, I see your point RoadKingTrooper ;). Aside from that, seeing as how Its not some ma and pa shop but rather a large multi-billion dollar national corporation I would hope that wouldnt stop them from expanding...And if it does...either way in the end I know its not from me because I paid for them out of my last check (not that it makes right what I did).

I just thought of something...Does it really matter if it was one or some? Isnt thats like saying killing a person with one bullet is better than killing a person with multiple...either way, the end result is the same and you still did it, right?

No, your problem is that in your comparison, you'd have "SOME" bodies laying around, rather than a single body.

I don't know what your results will be.

In my case, I admitted to helping myself out of my Granddad's soda machine at his garage when it was my job to re-stock it. The coinage wasn't an issue, but when your hot and soda's were a fairly exotic treat back in the 70's, it was too much for my 16 year old morals to handle. I also helped myself to some junkyard parts (light bulbs, fuses & such) and broke out a few windows of junkers before I discovered that someone might buy them... when I got into trouble with my Uncle.

You were around college age when you did yours.

That was then, before LEO careers were cool, but not just numbers and statistics and CSI had TV shows.

It would make me wonder why a good and honest employee got fired over sodas. It would inspire me to inquire further.

This would indicate a pattern of conduct, after pointing out that it wasn't all at one time but over a period of time...

Well, I was taken out from work about 2 months prior because of a broken thumb and was on workers comp. I came back after 2 weeks to light duty, and 1.5 months later I graduated and went on vacation. I heard a rumor that it was because of the workmans comp thing but that cant be proven. Rumor was, why would they pay for the medical, and salary for someone that couldnt do the full duties of the position when I gave them a reason to fire me and save some money. I dunno...not gonna worry about it anymore, got to much other stuff to going on too and its not gonna stop me from applying either way. Just wanted to pick you brain guys...and thank you much to all that replied.

In the first thread you started, you said:

So you can see, as others have said, it's not a one-time indiscretion, it's a pattern over a period of time. For me, I have no idea of the amount you've taken because you've told us two different things (a soda vs. some sodas). And to be honest, it's NOT about freakin' soda, it's about the accuracy of your statements.

In law enforcement, you only have your word. That's it. Your word is what your ENTIRE reputation is built on through your career. If you want to get into this field, you need to be as accurate as possible with your words. No embellishment. No minimalizing.
