    1. Is there a name for this condition?
    2. How is it treated?
    3. How does it develop and how long before symptoms appear?
Nope, but I've got big rheumatic problems with my anconal, because I am keepin' my arm hanging loose out of the patrol car's window all day while I am cruisin through my area ...

I got something like that by doing "drive by shoutings". Beating on the side of the police car and yelling at people to knock whatever they were doing off. Or yelling at pretty women to look and see how cool I was.....

Most coppers I know keep their arm close to the gun as a form of retention. Whenever I'm near a group of people I try to keep my elbow on it.

Well since we need to stereotype for a character may I suggest..

A Republican with lower back pains that can't afford the pain medication because of 3 failed marriages. The only reason he still walks the beat is because the late night slum restaurants "pop" and the occasional overtime.
Can I get paid for this?

    LEO Shoulder Problems

Thanks to about half of you for the jokes and to the rest for offering your ideas. Yes, I think the issue of shoulder problems from holding your arm away from your weapon was more prevalent when we wore wheel guns with custom grips and Border Patrol holsters, as does the character in my novel. (OK, I just dated myself.) It seems that it has disappeared since those of you younger than dirt don't recognize the issue.

I'm no kid and I'm from the days of wheel guns and I never heard of it. Even from the old guys that were around when I came on in 1970. The modern retention holsters stick out just as far as any holster I ever saw carried.
