I am very curious to find out if any LEOs out there OR any gun collector has had trouble obtaining homeowner's insurance because you own a firearm for protection OR you have a large collection of firearms.
If anyone has any stories please post.

My insurance never even asked, nor did they come into the house.
I go through Met Life.

It seems if you do not disclose there isn't a prob but if you do then there's a possibility that they will either cancel you or refuse to insure you depending on their underwriting guidelines.

Mine never asked but I don't have that many.

If you check your standard policy limits, you are usually covered for up to $1,000 in firearms. If you want more coverage, it is a "scheduled" rider for that property. You might also want to check with the NRA member benefits department, as they have a stand alone policy for firearms that is often more competitively priced than home owners' policy riders.
In any case, they will need serial #'s, photos and appraisals.
Cheers,
KK
I have additional $ amount coverage but it does not specify for what.
They never asked for the info.
There is NO reason for them to have serial#s of my firearms unless they are stolen.
I did take photos of various items in the house for replacement issues should something happen.
No problems with basic fire coverage, however theft loss is limited to $1000 on basic policy and I have the max rider of $5000 all risk coverage. This still leaves me about 15,000 short of adequate coverage. Between 40 years of collecting and inheriting a few nice pieces I have a pretty sizeable collection.Originally posted by GMan26

The ONLY place you get full coverage is through a NRA affiliated insurance company.:D
