    Question Criminal Background

    I am interested in finding out more about employment as a police officer. But, I have a criminal background. No felonies. I do have drug charges though, which I acquired over 5 years ago. I live a different lifestyle now. Do these charges completely bar me from obtaining a position?

    Look for another career path. I've never heard of anyone convicted of drug charges being hired.

    If nothing else, the criminal record would play havoc every time you testified in court. The defense would constantly challenge your credibility because of your record, just like is done with all witnesses.

    The doors of the career are definitely closed to you. Like retdet said though, congrats on turning things around. There are many other professions you could be part of that would allow you to feel satisfied and make a difference.
