    Question 26,000 GWVR in Louisiana

    Hi folks,

A quick thank you for your service to your communities. Underappreciated, doing a dangerous job... Thanks!

    back to the mundane...

I live in LA, and just purchased a 26,000 GWVR flatbed truck, that I plan on delivering my product locally. (No interstate transport at all.) These deliveries will be of my own product that I sell... not hired out for someoe else (not a hot shot service.)

I've done the research on the driver's licence, and understand that I need (and now have), a Class D chauffer's licence.

I was told by the state office in charge of apportionments that I do NOT need a DOT number (as long as I don't cross a state line.)

    Two questions:
    1. Does the DOT thing seem correct, and do you know of any other sticker, paper, etc that I might need?

    2. Is there an annual inspection (other than vehicle inspection, in LA, called an Inspection sticker, or Brake tag)?

Anything else that you'd like to throw out there is good. I want to be legal.

    Thanks!!

Call your local Lousiana State Police, Commercial Enforcement Section and they should have all of the answers you need. Secondly, you can contact you nearest Department of Motor Vehicles and for a small fee you can obtain a copy of LA commercial vehicle laws.
