    Paying a traffic fine

    hello...

I'll skip right to it...I have a traffic fine thats due TODAY...and I dont have the $$$

should I go to the town clerk and ask for an extension? give 'em a week till they realize this?

    ???

    Im having an anxiety attack!

    anybody have this experience before?

    i know if I wait too long, I'll have a warrant...etc.

what should I do? I should have the $$$ in a week or so.

    thanks in advance.

    The fine or the Anxiety?

Definitely call the clerks office...if nothing else, it may postpone the issuance of a warrant.

Our local courts require you to RESPOND within 10 days. They do not demand payment but require you to make ARRANGEMENTS to pay within a certain amount of time, usually 60-120 days.

Always contact the court - make payment arrangements. Maybe you will get lucky. I had an unemployed friend who allowed his fine to triple before contacting the court. On my advice, he went to the court and said that he was sorry and wanted to pay, but couldn't. The court agreed to accept the original amount of the fine if he paid in full on that day. He gladly accepted.

It is not in the courts interest to arrest you. It costs them far more than any fine they could give you. They want the money so clerks will go out of their way to allow you time to pay. The only thing that you have to remember is to actually pay the fine in the agreed upon time frame. Bad faith will not help you get another extension.

I appreciate the advice. They were closed today due to the snow so I'll stop by tomorrow with a letter and my lame excuse.

Bad faith will earn you a trip to the "county hotel".

From what I understand , the accomodations are spartan, the room service is non-existant, the security is tough and the other clientele are typically in a bad mood.

Funny thing though, they ALWAYS have rooms available !!:cranky:

On some occasions, putting people in jail was the best part of the job. If I found a rapist, or tagger, or another other on view crime - then getting these pukes off the street is a definite good thing.

I think most cops would agree.

good question because it reminded me of something.

when i recieved my one and only speeding ticket the officer said i needed to pay it by *insert date here* or that i could work out a payment plan.

payment plan = pay so much a month??? that part confused me. this was 3 years ago and if i asked about it i don't remember it.

I would think it would be more like a shame to throw people in jail. Thats like a doctor who would be happy that their patients are sick. Job security I guess.

If you want to use that analogy...

Officers are the Drs who helped get rid of the virus/illness. If i a Dr can help a patient get rid of one more illness, don't you think they would be happy?
