to what extent,if any; Are LEO's subject to drug testing? If you happened to get an contact high whilst on-duty during a bust and the test came back with trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol,What would be the reprocussions?

LEOs are subject to pre-hiring drug tests, as well as random drug tests throughout their career. Illegal drug usage is prohibited in being a cop.

A common misconception, but "second hand" smoke from marijuana does not make you high, nor does it cause "trace amounts" of THC to be found in your system. You cannot fail a drug test by simple exposure to marijuana smoke, you have to injest the drug through direct inhalation, oral injestion, injection or, if it tickles your fancy, anal absorbtion.

Depends on the dept. We do an initial drug screening, but do it afterwards only if there is suspicion. We don't do random although a lot of depts do.

What the poster said isn't impossible at all. We've busted some of our own for partaking of the devil weed, one was at work.

2) at the end of the 2 year probationary period
3) at random times
4) with cause
5) with consent
6) at times of promotion.

I am curious as to the basis for the question. Is not posed as a simple inquiry; if so, it would have been simply asked.

Was the vehicle in front of you a Police car? Whether it was or was not, how did it look like Marijuana smoke as it "ascended" from the vehicle... and what does Marijuana smoke look like, exactly?

My agency tests whomever they want, whenever they want. They can walk over to you one day with a cup and tell you to fill it. I have seen two people get fired for testing positive for marijuana, one a sworn agent, the other an admin person.

We can be drug tested at any time for any reason. Random tests are common at most agencies that I'm familiar with. Also, what ROS said is absolutely true. If an officer pops positive, it ain't from any "contact" high with it. Takes more than that.
