    Unhappy speeding demons

I was recently pulled over for speeding. I don't believe I was going as fast as he clocked me and I want to know how he could change the number or what could have happened to make it so outrageous. I have a mid size suv which has a governor and I cant go over 100. The police officer clocked me at 97, but I was in the middle lane on a 5 lane highway not looking at my speed, because I going with the flow of traffic. He was very polite as was I and he let me go pretty shortly after and only asked how long I was back in the state due to my out of state license. He got my car's color wrong on the ticket (my suv doesn't even come in a gray, its champagne) and he never asked me to sign the ticket he gave me. Again, I don't think there is any way I could have been going that fast since I even told my friend earlier there were cops out on Labor day weekend and I never go that fast. I haven't been pulled over in 8 years and this ticket will destroy my chances of getting a lot of jobs and hurt my insurance. I also don't like lawyers so Im trying everything! Even posting here! Would doing defensive driving (even though its over 25 mph) or asking about the calibration of the officer's speed gun do anything to help my chances?

So how fast were you going?

And what is the year and model of your SUV?

    Google "Ask a lawyer"

This is Ask A Cop. Cops online are not going to help you get out of a traffic ticket.

The only thing you can do is take it to court and fight it if you feel the officer was wrong. The color of your SUV will probably not make a hill of beans a difference (I dont even have enough room to write "champagne" on my citation..so for example if its maroon its going down as red). In Texas you'd probably have been arrested for reckless driving for going 97 mph count yourself lucky.

No need. The ad under his name is an advertisement for fighting tickets.

Getting the color wrong makes zero difference. He saw it as gray so that's what he wrote. I've never written "champagne" on a ticket either.

If I caught you at 97, a ticket would most likely be the least of your concerns as you'd be looking at paying a LARGE fine the next morning to get out of the jail you spent the night in, and then having to pay more to the storage lot to retrieve your vehicle. I may just give you a ticket - at that speed it would depend on a few things.

Numbers can't be "changed" on radars. They are what they are, and to suggest that any of us would do that is offensive and unfounded.

Wrote my first speeding ticket in 3 years Sunday. Had to chase the SOB for three miles to do it too. While I was at it I also wrote him for 3 unsafe lane changes and expired registration.

His car was gray too. I'm sure Chevy calls it "sunset beige" or some crap.

Pass ME on the freeway will ya.

If he was not in full, distinct uniform that identifys him as a peace officer, he did not show you his identification card, was not wearing his hat and leered at you in a way to make you feel guilty, you are good to go!!!
