Creeper Cop
Before I moved to Florida and started working out I was in your shoes, too. But I started hitting the free-weight's and eating about 2-3 times my usual calorie intake and tried to match it with protien.
To make a long story short, I've been here for 4 months and have gone from 6'1" and 150 lbs to 6'2-3" and 196 lbs, all it takes is a little dedication and some research, that is if you want to gain weight. I suggest reading, "Fats that heal, Fats that Kill", I forget the name of the guy that wrote it, but it really helped me realize that just taking in ridiculous amounts of food will not give you the results that you want.
PM me if ya want and I'll give you the diet I used and my lifting schedule.

Astronomical avatar of the week: The Hourglass Nebula: This formation of gasses was created when a dying star gently ejected its outer layers forming a glowing region of ionized gas as seen in the photo. The remaining core is known as a white dwarf, seen in the center. Our sun will leave a similar corpse behind after expending its nuclear fuel. This nebula is located in the constellation Musca, the fly, visible only in the southern hemisphere.

Gabe, you're probably talking about ''Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill: The Complete Guide to Fats, Oils, Cholesterol, and Human Health'' by Udo Erasmas. Never read it, though.
If anybody is worried about being too skinny, the worst thing that person could do is to eat all the garbage he or she can just to gain a little weight. Believe me, that ain't gonna do it, because all you're doing is filling your body with bad cholesterol (LDL), saturated and trans fats (bad fats), sodium, and therefore increasing your chances of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and all that good stuff. And you can't go having cops fainting while chasing people down the streets
To gain weight, working out with weights and exercising will do it.
Just make sure you never overtrain yourself (like working on the same muscles every day and lifting more than you could handle), because then you won't build any muscles but just kill them. And make sure you get enough protein in your diet (like from eggs, meats, fish, nuts, yogurts, etc.), because that helps build muscle. Just don't start piggin' out.
What's interesting is that to either lose weight or to gain it depends on the same two things: food and exercise.

Yeah, but not because of eating and excersizing, I was planning on elaborating in my first post, but forgot and/or got lazy. :DOriginally posted by Orleander

Hampton: Yep that's the book, and you pretty much got the gist of it... but still definitely good reading and a very helpful book if you're trying to lose/gain weight or just watch what you eat and stay healty.
ok so lets flip this around and how can one loose weight the easiest, but most effective?? cause im 5' 11" and 220... but i need to loose some pounds
I would suggest a good cardio vascular workout, AKA, running!!!
When I went into the academy many years ago, okay, 14, the emphasis was on running!! I dropped from 232 pounds to 185 in the four months I was there. I know most academies are longer now, but the running burnt fat like nothing else.
As far as putting weight on, How old are you? I ask this because all through high school I could not put on weight. I lifted, ate, played psorts, but still graduated a gangly 175 pounds at 6' 3"!!
But, when I hit my mid twenties, guess what, that high metabolism died, and I put on weight with noooo problem!!!
It was keeping it off that mattered!!!
If you're young, just enjoy it. I was 6'3" and 180 when I got out of high school. I was at 210 at my first and second academies and about 215 when I got married and started eating good homecooked meals every night eight years ago. I'm around 245 now. It is a lot easier to put it on than to take it off.![]()

Legs and Eggs the Breakfast of Champions starts every Friday at 6am.
Here are few suggestions concerning weight lost (easy and effective!):
1. Don't starve yourself!
-No, it doesn't mean you could continue to pig out, but it does mean that you shouldn't waste your time counting calories, eating only carrots everyday, and restricting from your diet all the foods that you love. When it comes to eating, eat only when you're hungry, not when you're angry, depressed, happy, or bored. Don't eat just to be eating, and when you're starting to feel full, stop eating. Don't try to gag yourself with that extra bit of macaroni and cheese because you feel bad about wasting food. Sometimes, Mom's command to ''clean your plate'' isn't always wise.
-Eat a well-balanced diet. There is nothing wrong with meat, because your body needs the protein. But too much meat is bad, because then you're simply building up sodium, cholesterol, and saturated fats (bad fats), which means an increased chance for heartattack, stroke, obesity, and diabetes.
-Dairy (not the Dairy Queen) is not an unhealthy product either. In fact, milk could be used to help loose weight, according to recent findings. But too much dairy is bad. About 2 to 3 servings a day would be enough.
-Add more fruits, veggies, and grain to your diet. Your losing weight heavily depends on what you eat and HOW you eat (eating more meat than anything else, always pigging out, etc.)
2. Stay away from diet pills.
-The last thing you need is to start depending on Jack's magic beans...
3. Do moderate aerobic/cardiovascular exercises.
-When we say moderate, what we're really saying is to not kill yourself. One mistake I see in the gym is people on threadmills or stairmasters sweating blood and grease and looking as if they were going to die at any moment. You NEVER want to do that! This is overtraining yourself and too much exercise could be bad for your body.
One way to tell if you're overtraining yourself is when you find it impossible to carry a conversation with somebody while you're working out. Let's say that you're with your girlfriend out on a jog. When you talk to Suzy, you should be slightly out of breath, but still able to carry a conversation with her. If you find that impossible, then you're overtraining yourself.
Other ways to tell if you're overtraining yourself is:
-When you start feeling pain in your head and nose (or feeling pain period)
-When you find yourself in an improper position while exercising (for instance, when you jog, you should always be up-straight, but if you find yourself slouching, then you're tiring yourself out)
-When it takes you too long to recover after a work out (after a work out, you should not be violently huffing and puffing, bending over with your hands resting on your knees, etc)
-When you start saying bad words after a work out...
After a work out, you should be feeling good and relieved, not miserable. If you feel miserable, then you're working too hard.
4. Don't be deceived by weight-lifting.
-It's a no-brainer: fat doesn't turn into muscle. So, if you have a big, furry gut, all the sit-ups and crunches won't help too much. All weight-training do is build and tone muscles, not to burn fat. Instead of losing weight, you would find yourself getting bigger instead, your fat plus your muscle mass increase making you look fatter. Cardiovascular work out is the real fat-burner.
5. Don't rush weight lost!!
-Losing weight in a HEALTHY way takes TIME. Don't go to the gym expecting to see some great results within a month, because it could take longer than that. So don't start saying to yourself, ''All right, buddy, we need to drop 40 pounds by the end of this week. Got to oil up myself for the beach this weekend!'' Hopefully, the paramedics would be there when you need them...
When it comes to working out, patience AND humility is definitely a blessed virtue. If you can't run as fast on the threadmill as the guy next to you could, then don't try to compete. And if you could only curl 40 pounds, then don't try to kill yourself by doing 60. The only result you'll see is a hernia the size of a freshly, ripe mango!
Hopefully this helps.
