    Well, thanks everybody for the replies.

    Considering the wide variety of answers it doesn't seem like such a dumb question after all.

    Amazing how differently things are handled in different states (or maybe even within states). For example, I 'm surprised that in some states cops can collect fines in cash at the side of the road. :confused:

    I looked at my last ticket again. Definitely no mention of any fines, no fine schedule, nothing. You mail in the ticket with a guilty or not guilty plea. If you plead guilty they'll inform you of the fine and you can mail it in. Otherwise, you find out in court and pay there. I'll be going next week for the race car ticket...
