I was terminated a few years ago for dishonesty on my time card. Do i have any chance of becoming a police officer?

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
My new hero!
Im sure you mau have a chance but its going to depend on the agency, how long ago it occurred, how much money you defrauded the company out of etc.

No worries; Police Departments love to hire people with such character. Cheats and thieves make good cops.

Well what happened was back in 2007 i had to sign a time card that was also signed by my manager and it stated that i left work at 6:00 pm and some other employees said they saw me leave the store at 5:42 pm. So a matter of 18 minutes which would convert into about 5 dollars. Thanks for your input and to those who did not judge before you herd the story.
If you leave earlier than you're scheduled to leave, and a kid gets hit by a car at an intersection you were supposed to be running or directing traffic, guess who'd be liable?
I suppose the best thing that you could do is put time between when this happened and where you'll be applying next... Find a new job, keep it, and don't punch out early. That way you have a new reference that can vouch that you've "changed your ways"
I think there was recently a story involving an NYPD unit doing this (falsifying time records), and people got in some serious trouble for that.
DONLON
I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
Did you leave work at 6:00PM or did you leave at 5:42PM? If you left at 6:00PM, no worries. I'm guessing you left at 5:42PM. That's a problem. You did not have to sign a time card saying you left at 6:00PM. You chose to do so. You should have signed a time card stating the correct time you left work. Does the fact that you only cheated your employer out of $5 mitigate things? You're lucky you only got fired.
What do you bring to the table that other candidates don't? If you want a chance, you'll need time and you'll need to stand out from the candidates that haven't lied on their time cards.

I personally do not believe i left at 5:42 but thats what they have stated. I believe it was 6:00. They were never able to so me any camera footage of the incident at there is a camera at the front door the whole time. So to my knowledge it is all he say she say. Since then i have moved on into a management position in the same line of work. I was at my first job for 4 years and have been at this one for 2. How long do you have to let something like this pass. I know alot of you are thinking this guy shouldn't get hired but this situation is not at all as it sounds. To me its a big misunderstanding.
Should be OK as long as the PD you apply at doesn't have timeclocks or cameras at the doors.
Might want to "brush" up on your memory skills a little though. The "I do not personally believe" doesn't cut it on the witness stand:rolleyes: Usually testimony requires a yes or no answer
