    Evicting a teenager in AZ

    Hello,
I have a question about what I need to do to legally evict my teenage son. He’s 19 almost 20 and we’ve never made him pay rent or anything like that. He a bum, not working or going to school (really the only good thing he’s doing is that he not breaking the law).

My wife (his step-mom) and I were talking it over last night. I thought because we’ve never made him pay rent I could just him to “get out.” However my wife seems to think that because we’ve let him live here (ie make a home here (he gets mail, uses this address when he registers for things (like selective service…, etc.) that we have to go to a court and do a formal eviction.

    Who’s right?

Call your local police and ask them.

Legally, your son does not fall under the landlord/tenant act and he would be trespassing after you gave him a reasonable request to leave the property.

The issue is that different jurisdictions may have different policies, so call your locals and ask.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

If he agrees to leave on hus own no big deal, if not youll most likely have to go through some sort of eviction process.

I already know what he'll tell us when we tell him to pack and leave (and its nothing I can post).
I guess I'll have to call the local PD and see what they say.
