Can an ex-con technically ever become involved in law enforcement in any manner?

I ask this because when I was watching 'Catch me if you can', Leo ends up working for the FBI at the end... It was supposed to be a true story...

    Does that ever happen?

Could I ever be some kind of undercover agent?

He can be an informant, that's all.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I've only heard of it one time. An old boss did prison time for a burglary back in the 60's. He cleaned up his act and started a non-profit agency which was eventually merged with community corrections. He was a heck of a guy though. He didn't take any crap from the inmates and ran a good program. One of the best bosses I had only because he knew BS from a mile away. He ended up getting a pardon from the Governor after numerous Law Enforcement agencies, Prosecutors and Judges backed him up on it.

As Piggy said, it took ALL that for that guy, and he never was a cop and never would have been able to become one. He was in corrections. Also, that was in the 60s - different time in a BIG way. It was good that it turned out that way, but even just to be able to do that in corrections it took a lot of work, a lot of years, and lot of support. I know of other cases where those with minor histories were allowed to be correctional officers, but never cops.

So, MAYBE in that capacity, and that depends on your record. If it's a felony or a high misdemeanor, forget even that. Otherwise, as retdet said, only as an informant, and that will take some establishing as well because you have to prove to be a RELIABLE one. However, you certainly won't make a living as such.

Frank Abagnale, the real life person that "Catch Me if You Can" is based on, did work for the FBI, but not as an agent/law enforcement officer. He was an expert on white collar crimes (basically an informant on their payroll), and served in that position with the Bureau.

As others have said, no, you can't be a cop if you have a felony conviction. Felons cannot possess firearms, which would disqualify one from being a cop anyways.

Thanks! And that makes more sense, in the movie they didn't clarify that.

Anyways, it's too bad I had not followed through when they interviewed me for the LAPD when I was younger.
I was a little worried at the time because I had some family that did not at the time have their green card.

It is funny how life works.

Not in California! Even Dog Chapman has to give up his gas cannisters when he comes here. He is not permitted to possess any offensive or deadly weapons.

What a fine example for young people to emulate! NOT!!!
