Do Police Officers Have To Take Off There Shoes?

I have a question. If it is snowy or muddy out, and an officer has to enter someones home, and are asked to leave there shoes at the door do they have to remove them. I have seen officer's at peoples houses that i know walk in and track snow and mud all over. Is there a policy that the police must leave there shoes/boots on at all times. I remember one female police officer actually checking to see if her boots were clean before walking on my friends carpet.

Coming from someone who spent the better part of 6 years doing nothing but paying visits to several houses a day, that would NEVER happen. First of all, most of the houses that I went into were ****-holes! At my dirtiest, I was still more concerned about what I brought out with me than what I may have left in there.

In the rare instance that it was a decent place, we just did our best to not make any unnecessary messes. Most people, while not happy about it, understand. If not, I leave a card and tell them where to call and complain... right after I tell them not to associate with felons, etc. If the guy's in the house, no apologies.

I also clear my weapon in the individuals provided clearing barrel if requested. Sometimes they are gunshy and I wouldn't want to upset or disturb them by my presence...:D

Seriously though, most people have a million other things going through their heads when the police come BESIDES "you have dirty shoes".

I would tell them if they want to talk to me, the boots are staying on. They can bring their *** to the station, or stand outside if they don't want anyone walking on their carpet or floor with shoes on.

I know that it's stupid. I know I would never do it.

But I also know officers who work for an unnamed department in my area who are expected BY THEIR DEPARTMENT to comply with this request if asked. Of course, the same department also prohibits its officers from wearing 2 sets of handcuffs on their belt "because it looks too intimidating."

I would never work there, and I would quickly find another job if my department started acting like that.
