Committed my first crime yesterday..have a question

Yesterday I made a very poor decision and got caught drinking underage. I am 20 years old, and was issued a citation for it. I have been freaking out all day because my major is criminology and I wanted to some day become a detective, but i am scared that this MIC is going to ruin my future and all of the time I've spent going to college for crim was just a huge waste of time now. I am going to try to get into a program that will drop it off my record, but if I cant, am I ever going to be able to pursue a career in law enforcement, and my dream of becoming a detective?

Do a search. This has been covered MANY times.

I will say that I can't tell you how disappointing it is to continually see people who want to get into LE, doing things that would only make their (supposed) career choice more difficult.

    Good luck.

Sir, I am sorry you feel this way. I was asking a simple question. Humans make mistakes, it happens. If you are trying to sit here and say you are a cop and have never broken the law, whether getting caught or not, I do not believe you. If this is going to void me from getting a job as a cop than that is very dissapointing as I am already depressed about this issue, and finding that out will be very more dissapointing.

If I cant get a job as one, then I am going to change my major before its too late. That is all I am asking. And I will search around

If this is the ONLY thing you've ever done that's a crime and the only thing you ever WILL do that's a crime, then it won't keep you out of law enforcement.

I'll echo what Switch said in that 1) you could have searched first; and 2) it is VERY disappointing to see people who choose LE as a career do things like this. No, you didn't murder anyone, but the fact remains that you did commit a crime. Whether you complete a diversion program or not, you will always have to answer that you were charged for drinking underage as well as revealing your criminal justice classes.

Now, you want to go off on a tangent about Switch saying he's never broken the law. That shows MORE immaturity on your part since he clearly never said, NOR insinuated that. Maybe you SHOULD change your major and do a bit of growing up.

I've kept my nose clean enough to get a great job and get an SCI clearance (google it). While not planning on going into LE, I kept my closet clear o enough skeletons to still be what is called a "most competitive candidate", as it takes more than just not getting DQed.

Also, you do not have to have a major in CJ to get into LE. In fact, many do not. I know I would have never considered it.

..but that is another search, as there are a ton of threads on it.

Sorry I come off that way. It might sound a little immature, and it might be but, I just dont understand why people have to respond as the way he did to me. Instead of giving me a sentence or two of why I am not going to be able to do this for a living, he gives me a paragraph on how I should just search around.

Like I said, this is my only crime I've committed. I understand this is tough but I just want an honest opinion, am I now wasting my time and money going to school for criminal justice with this MIC, or is there still a decent chance I can get accepted?

Anyways thank you both for your timely responses.

Well, then search, DUDE! I am a damned moderator on here, trying to save the waste of bandwidth that you brought to us! It has been covered ad nosium. Consider it preparation for your summer final exam! RESEARCH!

Also, look a little more closely and read a little more slowly. I never said you would not get hired. I spoke of the disappointment in retards jeopardizing their supposed life-ling aspirations. I am sure you can find an agancy (even if it may be what we call a "bottom-feeder" to get hired onto).

....and sorry, junior, adults use paragraphs.

Finally, I am closing this worthless thread until you go do a little research and ask a novel question that has not been covered 50 times.

How do you like them apples!
