neighbor keeps calling cops for no reason

first off it started by my neighbor being spotted trying to shoot my sister's dog he excuse was he was trying to scare the dog because the dog was barking which he wasnt my husband comfronted him told him if he had a problem with the dog just to let him know before my husband could finish the man blew up and since the neighbor has family in the law enforment he randomly calls them out for any little reason my husband and I have ignored him made no threats to him or his property but he continues to find reason he bad mouth us to our neighbors and still continues to call the police is there any thing we can do the lastest is he told a neighbor we try to run down there dog in the middle of the night and damage his mail box and that he supposely has video of it pls some advice thanks

First off who cares what he tells other people? AS Im sure you already know life isnt a popularity contest and people will talk about you behind your back everywhere you go. Ignore it and move on.

Secondly let him keep calling the police. If the complaints are unfounded and you arent getting in trouble who cares. Eventually the police will get tired of sending officers for fruitless complaints and he will be spoken to.

People can say whatever they want about you. It is your response that defines your character. Then your neighbor ceases being a concerned citizen, and becomes the wacko that keeps calling the cops for no reason.

Slander and libel are civil offenses, and you would have to pursue them through an attorney, not the police.
