    Question Question about warrants

What is the best way to approach law enforcment when informing them where someone is who has a warrant.

Do you need their exact location and time, or is it as simple as giving them the address in which they stay?

Thanks in advance for your reply

Depends. Who has the warrant? What is the warrant for? How much is the warrant? How do you KNOW that the person has a warrant?

Like Samuel said, depends on specifics. If it's an address to a residence where they live, yeah, that might help. If it's just a crack house they occasionally go to, maybe, maybe not. Any info is helpful, but the more details given, the more helpful it is.

The warrant is for not paying child support, and the friend of the court says there is a warrant. That is all I can answer right now providing that it is not my case with the friend of the court.

As part of my work day, I pull up the warrant list every day. I can do it in the car, on my computer, and can search by district, beat, age, sex, blah, blah, blah. After breakfast, around 0530, I go to the listed addresses for people with warrants and we knock on the door. No joke - at least 50% of the time the guy answers the door and we braing them in. If someone tellse me Joe Smith has a warrant, I can run their rap sheet for a DOB, run the name, and see if a warr is open. Sometimes warr's can be several days behind when they are issued to when they show up in my computer. If it's my case and I was at court, I can arrest them if I see them on the street so long as I have the info from court. If it's not in the computer, though, and its not my case I was in court for there is nothing I can do. I cant take someone's 'word' for it that a warr is open if it doesnt show up on the computer.

What you can do is tell any officer the name and addy of the person with the warr. They will neeed a DOB as well, and can run the name on the 'puter. If they get a warr, they can go to the house/loc and knock - or not. Honestly, it's up to the officer how vigerously they want to persue it.

Some departments have warrant divisions that routinely pick up people. Look up a # for the warrant division or for the non-emergency # of the department, and see where you can go from there.

Any officer? or do I need to let an officer know in the city I reside? or the city which the person with the warrant resides? I do not have the birthdate right off hand but I could get it. I could also do better then that, I could provide the SS# of the person.

Whatever city the person with the warrant is located, as it would be that city that would be doing the arresting. SS# is not necessary, just name and DOB

I will look into that... thanks.

I just feel if I do this I only have one shot at it considering that this person may flee, or retailate. If the officer does not make the arrest or if the officer goes to the door and the person is not there it would warn this person, giving this person time to run off.

At any given time in my county, there are about 40,000 warrants out for everything from parking to murder.

And yes , I have locked people up on parking warrants ( It was $925 worth )

The last person I locked up on warrant I believe the warrant was for "in the park after dark" and for "failure to comply with officer." He should've gone to court. I once stopped a guy come up to me and tell me "I have a warrant, I want to get arrested." I had no choice, so he was arrested.

Almost every morning, if it's slow, I knoock on doors. I don't care what the warrant is for. It it's on my beat I go, cause that's MY beat.

I was in the station once when I guy walks in and says to te desk officer "I think I have a warrant" Desk asks "What for?" ad the guy says "Murder".

Sure enough, name check pops the warrant.

We called and they do not have a warrant divison, they just said that they would need to know the persons full legal name, DOB, and their exact location. But they told us that they go whenever they want and not at a specific time; so therefore, there is not a garantee they would go when the person is at the location.

I'm not sure I want to do this.

Besides, I don't know if it would even be in their computer...is there a way I could have it ran to see if that person has the warrant to begin with? Like if I gave someone on here the information DOB and name etc.

It has to be a sure thing, that this person gets picked up before the 8th!
    :(
