Lock it up. Dont spend a dime.
Call the PD in the small Texas town and inquire if this makes ANY sense to them at in case they have had something similar happen to them.
Check the local newspaper(s) for this same town/ area and see if anything like this has happened recently.
Use Free People Search by ZabaSearch! to see if using the mispelled version and the correct version of her name has any matches or close matches in your STATE.

I agree with RDS. This type of stuff dosen't just happen. If she's that worried about it either put it into a bank or put it into a 6 month CD. If no one comes knocking in 6 months they odds are they won't. Plus she will have whatever % she makes.

Put it in a seperate bank account. Let it sit for a year. If someone does want it back, keep whatever interest it's accrued. If not, consider it yours.
