    Michigan officers looking to relocate

My wife and I are both officers in Michigan. Due to the economy, she will probably be getting laid off in the next year. We are thinking of relocating to another state because almost every city and county in Michigan either has a hiring freeze or is talking about layoffs. We are thinking about relocating now instead of waiting for the hammer to fall. I have 12 years experience all patrol (FTO, K9, tactical team). She has 8 years experience mostly patrol. We work for a department of about 85 (used to be 108).

We would like to move to a larger department in a warm state. Our department has eliminated all specialty units due to the reduced number of personnel. The only thing left is patrol and detective. I would like some input on good departments that are hiring preferably one that accepts lateral transfers (I know some start laterals at higher pay and only require a short academy or in-house training). We make about $65,000 each now with holidays and limited overtime and would like to be somewhere in the ballpark at top pay. If you work for a department that meets these criteria or know of one that does, I would greatly appreciate your input. If you have any other question about us please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance. Hope this is the right section for this question.

I'm pretty sure that LVPD takes laterals from all over. You should also look into Florida and Texas.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

Generally speaking, there are several agencies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area hiring and most if not all are more than willing to look at out of state lateral candidates. Including the largest agencies such as Dallas or Fort Worth PD. Most of the departments may want you to complete a full or modified academy to obtain you peace officer's license but you'll have to check with any department you have an interest in to find out what they may specifically require.

    As another option...

If you want to know how to go about getting your Texas peace officer's license, check out the following link.

    Home

Then towards the bottom of the page there is a link which says this:
"If you are an out of state licensed peace officer and are wanting to start the process for Texas licensing, click here"

Hope this information is of some benefit...

+1 to the Dallas or Austin area.

I also think your going to find the $$$ is better then what you're currently making plus the cost of living isn't that much higher.

    Houston PD is always hiring.

Dallas and Austin too. I hear Austin is very hard to get hired there. But, there are some really nice surrounding suburbs around Austin. Austin is a nice place. If you can look past all the weird people.
