Can you electronically track more than one target (Radar, Vascar)

I know today's technology with Radar, Vascar, ...etc is quite advanced. However, is it possible for a single Radar/Vascar operator to track two seperate targets, moving at two different speeds. Furthermore, can they cite the two drivers for the two different speeds.

This scenario apparently occured in Alabama, on Interstate 20, from a supposed stationary operating position. No mention as if the device was Lidar, Radar, or Vascar. It was mentioned that the "Clocking" was done electronically.

    Thanks.

we only use good ole fashinoned radar (not enough money for the good stuff), but i would say that there is probably technology out there that would let you do that .

Yes, the Talon unit can track 2 seperate targets. It has a 'fastest' mode.

The unit has 2 displays. One is the standard display that shows the good old largest signature. But the second display shows the fastest signature. I suppose this could be accomplished even when there is a pach of cars with a fast mover coming up the fast lane. If all the cars were speeding, you just stop them both. Target identification is going to be the battle in court.

It would be extrememly easy to use that technology on 2 approaching cars. 1 speed reading would be the slower car up front and the other would be the faster car behind.

Never actually tried that, though I have used that particular gun in a training situaiton to track cars and could see how it could be done under the right circumstances.

Kustom Signals makes it. There is not a lot of info on their site about it, but is does mention the fastest vehicle mode.

From their website: "Same Direction / Fastest Capability allows the unit to display the strongest and the fastest same direction targets simultaneously. "

DC is right about the LIDAR, too. I often will track a 2 or 3 approaching vehicles. However, I usually stop the slowest. It is sometimes difficult and tricky to stop more than one car by yourself. But with a wolf pack, you could stop as many as you have chase cars for.

To track multiple cars with Lidar, you simply point and shoot at one, get the reading, then move to the next one.

Being that LIDAR has a narrower beam, and greater selectivity for targeting, how much quicker to lock is it than conventional RADAR?

This is exactly what the fastest mode is for. You can see the car is going faster than the truck, but radar defaults to largest target. So a quick press of the fastest button and you pick up the cars speed, regardless of target size. I use it all the time.

We also use the Talon. They are good radars, but they shadow a LOT.

I have a Kustom Golden Eagle. It's and front/rear and same lane radar, and it has the "fastest vehicle" mode also, and yes you can track more than one vehicle. Though the "fastest vehicle" mode is not accepted in NC.

Though to clarify..... a radar is only accurate as the opinion of the operator (just the usual disclaimer)

I have used the "faster vehicle" when there is a vehicle near a semi, and picked up the faster signal.

One can only be so Open Minded before all that mind **** spills out, stains and ruins everything.

It's theoretically faster, but not in practice. I often times get a reading within a 1/2 second of pressing the button, which is the same for RADAR. But there are many times, especially when shooting at 750'+, that is takes 1-3 seconds. It depends on atmospheric conditions and reflective properties of the target. That aquisition is usually in best case scenarios with good reflective objects and good atmospheric conditions at medium distances. It also depends on how steady you can hold the gun and where.what you aim it at.

We had a really light snow flurry the other day and I was having trouble aquiring targets at 500'. I picked up the RADAR and was getting them with no problem.

But even though LIDAR may be slower to get the reading, it can pinpoint a target in traffic where RADAR cannot. And, if you aim low on the car, you can wait as long as you need to without setting off the LIDAR detector on the target car.

RADAR is my 'old reliable', but it also tells everyone within a mile that you are using it.
