We have 2 really small towns that don't have a FTO program for the Rookie Part Timers. They get 2 weeks when they go full time with a FTO but the P/T get 1 hour of map reading and a policy book to read then they are on their own after 1 hour with a senior officer and bamo off they go. Our larger departments have a minimum 16 week FTO phase. One department goes 26 weeks then 1 year of probation.

Here, after graduating the academy you are assigned to an FTO. You remain with that FTO for 6 weeks, and then rotate to another on a different shift. You remain with the second FTO until he deems you ready for for independent patrol.
