I'm curious what makes a cop a good cop. How are you judged? Like, do you have a quota of tickets you must write, etc.? Thanks

Judged by who?

My Chief - No complaints = Good Job
My Lieutenant - No complaints = God Job
My Sergeant - No complaints = Good Job
My Peers - Self Initiated Activity, Great Arrests = Good Job
Board of Supervisors - Looking Good and Keeping Crime Down = Good Job
Citizens - Warnings; Letting them skate on criminal charges; Being right around the corner when they put themselves in a bad situation and taking action; Heavy patrolling in the low crime districts because they "pay more taxes" = Good Job

We don't have quotas for tickets, I don't think any department in the country has quotas. When someone makes a quota comment when I am writing them a ticket, I politely tell them, "No, I don't have a quota, I can write as many as I want."

Different people judge you for different things, and they are all contrary to each other. Therefore, you go out there, do your best for yourself, and go home at the end of your shift.
